UwView Pro Is Now on Sale — Instant Access to Huge Files, Anytime (Windows, macOS & Linux)

Release

We’ve released UwView Pro, the premium upgrade to the free large-file text viewer UwView. It’s available first on macOS.

Purchase page: UwView Pro (one-time $129 / $9 per month)

What’s Different

While the free version is a viewer that lets you open huge files, UwView Pro is a viewer that lets you handle huge files at high speed and store them at 1/9 the size. Rather than adding more features, it differentiates itself through performance and archive management.

  • Instant to open and use, every time — Any huge file can be displayed, scrolled, and searched the instant you open it (the index builds in the background; line numbers appear once it’s complete). Because UwView Pro saves the index and compressed cache, from the second open onward it’s instant, with line numbers already in place (reopening takes about 0.02–0.07 seconds; klogg re-indexes every time, taking about 110 seconds).
  • Faster search — Via the compressed cache, literal/case-insensitive search is about 9× faster (14 seconds vs. 120–135 seconds), and regex search is about 4.4× faster.
  • Store at 1/9 the size — Archive logs at about 1/9 the size (48GB → 5.3GB, checksum-protected), and open them directly without decompressing.

From the very first open, UwView lets you view and search the entire file the moment you open it (klogg shows only the head of the file until indexing finishes). The index builds in the background, and line numbers appear once it’s complete. Because UwView Pro saves the index and compressed cache, from the second open onward it opens instantly, with line numbers already in place.

Test conditions: 47.73GB, 890 million lines, the OSM file japan-latest.osm, external USB drive at 0.41GB/s, 32GB RAM, compared against klogg 24.11.0. Hit counts matched exactly between the two. No numbers have been rounded. For a detailed comparison, see the full benchmark writeup and the full feature comparison (which also notes areas where klogg has the advantage).

Note on file size notation: “48GB” is a rounded value of 47.73GiB (bytes ÷ 1024³). In macOS’s size display (SI, ÷1000³), this shows as 51.25GB*. Both refer to the same file (51,254,526,392 bytes).

Pricing

  • One-time purchase: $129 (approx. ¥20,000) — Own this major version permanently.
  • Monthly: $9 (approx. ¥1,500) — Includes the latest updates. Try it monthly first, then switch to the one-time purchase if you like it.

Payment is processed through a Merchant of Record (Polar). After purchase, you’ll receive a license key starting with UVP-… along with the download. Paste the key into the app’s [Settings] → [License] to activate it and enable the Pro features.

Supported Platforms (Windows, macOS & Linux)

  • macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon / Intel). Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it launches without any Gatekeeper warnings.
  • Windows 10 / 11 (x64 / ARM64). Unzip and run. Currently unsigned — if SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. SHA256 provided.
  • Linux (x86_64 / ARM64). Extract the tar.gz and run. SHA256 provided.

If you’d like to experience “instant open” first with the free version, check out UwView (free). Instant display of huge files and automatic Japanese character encoding detection are both available in the free version too.

Summary
